Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma met at the Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati on May 29 to advance the resolution of their long-standing inter-state border dispute. Both leaders committed to accelerating the boundary demarcation process to reach a final, lasting solution.
During the meeting, the two chief ministers reviewed several legacy issues affecting their neighboring states. Sarma described the discussions as excellent and emphasized the shared goal of resolving outstanding problems through consistent dialogue and close coordination.
Beyond border issues, the leaders discussed expanding their collaboration across multiple sectors. They aim to leverage synergies between the two states to boost economic growth in the Northeast, a region Prime Minister Narendra Modi refers to as the Ashtalakshmi. The talks also focused on strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation under the central government’s Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat initiative.
