Assam Administration Probes Illegal Land Occupation Allegations in Ledo

Guwahati: The Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) has formally accused two individuals of illegally occupying land owned by a Tea Tribe family in Ledo Maulang. The association claims that Jugesh Das and Zaminul Rahman, also known as Pitka, established a brick kiln on nine bigha and two katha of land belonging to resident Sanu Mura without the necessary legal documentation.

According to the ATTSA Margherita Branch Committee, the suspects failed to obtain a No Objection Certificate or any other mandatory permits for their operation. The association further alleges that the pair utilized forged lease documents to secure control of the property. Pranjal Baraik, a leader with the ATTSA Central Executive Committee, stated that the financial terms of the occupation were never honored. He noted, "Under the terms of the lease agreement, Sanu Mura was entitled to receive Rs 36 lakh over four years at the rate of Rs 9 lakh annually, but has allegedly not received the amount."

The Margherita Co-District Administration recently conducted a second hearing regarding the dispute at the circle office. Following the session, officials directed Jugesh Das to produce all valid lease documents within one month. The case remains under active scrutiny as the administration faces increasing public pressure to conduct a thorough investigation into the claims.
