Itanagar: Sub-Inspector Tamo Bakhang, a decorated Arunachal Pradesh police officer previously celebrated for his valor during the 2025 Hollongi operation against drug kingpin Rohit Basumatory, has sustained severe eye injuries during recent civil unrest. The incident occurred on Friday as Bakhang was traveling toward the 6 Kilo area in Itanagar during a bandh.

Reports indicate that unidentified individuals targeted his vehicle by throwing stones, resulting in shattered glass that caused significant trauma to his eyes. Following the attack, he was initially transported to Niba Hospital before being transferred to the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS). Medical professionals at the facility indicated that the deep lacerations from the glass fragments pose a serious risk of permanent vision loss or partial impairment.
