Itanagar: The Capital district administration in Arunachal Pradesh has officially revoked the preventive detention orders issued against eight individuals. This decision followed the withdrawal of a proposed 36-hour bandh that had been organized by the Arunachal ST Bachao Andolan Committee in the Itanagar Capital Region.
District Magistrate Toko Babu issued the formal order on May 15. These detention measures were initially enacted under Section 3(1) of the Arunachal Pradesh Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act, 2014, in response to the protest, which was slated to begin at 5 am on May 14.
The administrative reversal was prompted by formal representations submitted by Likha Tolum and Kompu Dolo requesting the release of the detained persons. Additionally, the Nyishi Elite Society, through general secretary Sol Dodum, sent a letter to the protest committee urging them to cancel the strike. Once the protest programme was formally withdrawn, the district administration concluded it was appropriate to discharge all detainees with immediate effect.
The individuals released from custody include Milli Ambo, Sol Dodum, Tana Tamar, Diktup Yikar, Raj Brey, Samtang Towsik, Okaylum Mum, and Md Azad Islam.
