Itanagar: The government of Arunachal Pradesh has ordered the immediate release of monthly wages to 4,745 employees who were hired beyond the sanctioned workforce strength. This interim relief comes after a formal inquiry led by the Principal Secretary of the Public Works Department uncovered thousands of unauthorized appointments across various state departments.

The inquiry identified 4,427 casual and contingency workers alongside 318 work-charged employees hired without following established procedures. These individuals had been without pay since February 24, when the state froze payments to facilitate the investigation. Officials confirmed the decision to restart payments was made on compassionate grounds while the government works to finalize a permanent policy.

To prevent future irregular hiring, the state is considering several reforms. Proposed measures include enforcing stricter control over the allocation of posts and restricting the transfer of personnel between divisions. According to the official notification, "district treasuries and sub-treasuries would release funds only after receiving a jointly signed notification specifying the formal distribution of posts."

Departments are currently consulting on how to best address the structural issues highlighted in the report. Future payouts will require verification endorsed by both the concerned head of department and the head of office to ensure strict adherence to state standards.
