Itanagar: The government of Arunachal Pradesh has officially signed an agreement with NHPC Limited to develop the 3,097 MW Etalin Hydroelectric Project in the Dibang Valley. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the state’s efforts to expand its hydropower capacity and contribute to the national power grid.

Once operational, the facility will produce approximately 11,600 million units of clean energy every year. Officials expect the project to serve as a catalyst for economic growth by bringing essential infrastructure and new job opportunities to the remote region. NHPC Limited has been tasked with managing the construction process while ensuring that local communities remain active stakeholders in the project's development.

The agreement was finalized during a meeting of the Steering Committee on Hydro Power Development, where officials reviewed the state's entire portfolio of hydroelectric initiatives. During the session, Chief Minister Pema Khandu emphasized the need for efficiency and urgency in completing the state's power infrastructure. Addressing the committee, he stated, "No delays, no excuses, and no slow movement."

The Etalin project is considered one of the largest hydroelectric initiatives in India. It is intended to play a pivotal role in the country’s transition toward renewable energy while simultaneously fostering long-term development throughout the Dibang Valley.
