Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the Bamboo and Cane Technology Centre in Gungu on Monday. Accompanied by Forest Minister Wangki Lowang and MLA Nabam Vivek, Khandu dedicated the new facility to the state, highlighting its potential to turn local resources into significant economic drivers.

The state holds the second-largest bamboo stock in India and features over 60 distinct species. Describing the material as the state's "Green Gold," the Chief Minister noted that the facility will serve as a central hub for innovation, skill development, and the commercialisation of bamboo products for youth, artisans, and self-help groups.

Khandu credited recent national reforms for simplifying bamboo cultivation and commercial use by removing the plant from forest tree regulations. He urged local residents to leverage the new training resources, alongside national programs like the UNNATI Scheme and various MSME initiatives, to reach broader domestic and international markets.

To ensure long-term progress, the Chief Minister directed the Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo Resources and Development Agency to develop a comprehensive state policy. This roadmap will focus on the sustainable cultivation, industrial processing, and regeneration of bamboo resources across the region.
