Itanagar: The government of Arunachal Pradesh has officially designated the Arunachal Pineapple Festival as an annual state event. This move aims to bolster the regional horticulture sector and provide a significant economic boost to local rural communities.
First launched in 2024, the festival focuses on promoting the high quality and natural sweetness of pineapples grown in the Bagra circle of the West Siang district. The event has grown into a platform that highlights local agriculture alongside Galo tribal culture, regional tourism, and hospitality.
The All Bagra Welfare Society welcomed the decision, praising Chief Minister Pema Khandu and the state cabinet for their support. The society noted that the official recognition will create new opportunities for farmers, self-help groups, and local entrepreneurs. They also credited Aalo West MLA Topin Ete for his role in advocating for the development of the horticulture sector.
Organizers believe the Bagra region can develop into a major agricultural hub, attracting food processing industries, exporters, and investors. The state government plans to use the festival to increase the national and international visibility of Arunachal Pradesh's organic produce and cultural heritage.
