Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Capital Police dismissed claims of misconduct surrounding the May 20 arrest of anti-drug activist Gumin Mize. An internal investigation, launched on May 26, concluded that allegations against the Itanagar Police station staff were "baseless, incorrect and fictitious."

Mize was arrested in Itanagar in connection with a criminal case registered at the Bihpuria Police Station in Assam, involving charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. Following his arrest, public statements and social media posts claimed that the Itanagar Officer-in-Charge had directed Assam police to assault Mize. Additional accusations suggested that local officers had tampered with Mize's vehicle and hidden his arms licence.

To address the claims, the Superintendent of Police conducted a thorough review of CCTV footage, witness testimonies, and digital evidence. The findings cleared all involved Arunachal Pradesh Police personnel of any wrongdoing. The Superintendent met with Mize on Wednesday to present the evidence, and police report that the activist expressed satisfaction with the results.

Police also addressed a surge in online hostility, revealing that their monitoring team identified fake social media accounts issuing death threats against the Officer-in-Charge and his family. Officials confirmed they have traced the individuals responsible and initiated legal proceedings. The department urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information, stating that any misconduct will be handled strictly through legal channels.
