Arunachal Minister Warns 80:20 Job Quota Faces Legal Risk

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Industries and IPR Minister Nyato Dukam warned that the state’s 80:20 job reservation policy sits on shaky legal ground. Unions want it gone. They claim all government jobs should go to indigenous candidates. The current setup reserves 20 percent of posts for non-APST applicants.

Dukam thinks a lawsuit could kill the whole thing. The government fears the policy contradicts federal employment standards. If a judge reviews the system, the results could be absolute. "If someone goes to court, there are apprehensions that the entire 80:20 reservation policy may get scrapped because we are reserving jobs against the Central government's job policy," the minister said.

Pressure is mounting fast. Civil society groups and student unions are demanding total exclusivity for indigenous hires. The minister’s admission highlights the state's anxiety regarding the policy. A single court challenge could force a total rewrite of how Arunachal Pradesh fills its government roles.
