Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Minister Nyato Dukam pulled back his comments on the state's 80:20 reservation ratio this week. The reversal follows intense heat from the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union. The student group demanded an instant clarification after Dukam spoke up on the sensitive quota policy.

AAPSU leaders did not hold back. They called the minister's statement "immature and irresponsible" while insisting that ending the current ratio is a non-negotiable goal for the organization. The union vowed it would not stand for any attempts to soften their hard-line stance on the issue.

The 80:20 split remains a massive headache for the government. It draws constant fire from civil society, politicians, and student activists alike. Everyone has an opinion on how the state should divide its resources. With Dukam now backing down, the pressure shifts back to the government to decide how to handle the policy moving forward.
