Arunachal Dance Competition Draws National Talent as Breaking Gains Popularity

Itanagar: Freestyle dancers and rappers from across India converged in Arunachal Pradesh for the grand finale of the third Battle competition. The event showcased high-stakes face-offs in breaking, hip-hop, popping, and rap battles, drawing participants from cities like Mumbai, Shillong, and Dibrugarh. A large crowd of dance enthusiasts gathered to watch the performances, which were evaluated by recognized judges including Bedroc, Jasika, Poppin, and Tickob Boy.

The competition arrives as breaking earns increased global attention following its debut at the 2024 Summer Olympics. This latest edition featured several notable winners, including Aee Gee in the rap category, Luis in hip-hop, Jin Indian in breaking, and Funky Villain in popping.

The event was organized by dancer Nangbia Chanda, a former finalist on the television show India's Got Talent. Chanda launched the competition in 2016 and revived it in 2022 following a six-year break. Despite receiving no government support, the organizer remains committed to providing a stage for local artists to refine their skills and represent both their state and the country on a larger scale.
