Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu released a music video titled Meto Dumra on May 20 to honor the historical and spiritual links between Tawang and Bhutan. The video is inspired by the traditional Monpa folk song Mento Dumra, which appeared in the Bhutanese film Chorten Kora. Khandu described the project as a musical tribute that reflects the shared heritage surrounding the Chorten Kora stupa located in eastern Bhutan.

Local legend plays a central role in this connection. According to tradition, a princess from Tawang sacrificed herself during the construction of the stupa, cementing an eternal bond between the people of Tawang and the Trashiyangtse region. Many devotees also believe that the tilted spire of the stupa leans toward Tawang, symbolically awaiting the return of pilgrims each year.

This deep devotion is evidenced by the annual Dakpa Kora pilgrimage. Every year, residents of Tawang travel for days to visit the sacred site, maintaining a tradition passed down through generations. By recreating specific scenes from the original film, the new music video serves as a tribute to this enduring cultural and emotional legacy.
