Arunachal Chief Minister Welcomes CBI Probe Into Alleged Contract Irregularities

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed his support for a preliminary investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation into allegations that firms linked to his family received numerous government contracts. Khandu stated that he is ready to answer any questions from investigators and maintained that he remains entirely clean regarding the matter. He also criticized the Congress party for attempting to politicize the issue.

The Supreme Court ordered the inquiry following a public interest litigation that accused the Chief Minister’s family of securing 121 contracts and 322 work orders between 2014 and 2025. These contracts, totaling over Rs 1,270 crore, are now the subject of a court-mandated review. While the state government previously acknowledged ownership details of these firms in its court filings, it continues to pledge full cooperation with the current investigation.

A CBI team has already visited Arunachal Pradesh to begin their work. The Supreme Court has instructed the agency to submit a status report within 16 weeks, which will help determine if the findings warrant the registration of a formal criminal case.
