Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has released a new music video titled Meto Dumra, a tribute that highlights the deep spiritual and cultural connection between the people of Tawang and Bhutan. The project draws inspiration from the traditional Monpa folk song featured in the Bhutanese film Chorten Kora and seeks to honor the historical significance of the famous stupa located in eastern Bhutan.

The film project recreates scenes from the original work to celebrate the enduring legacy of the site. At the heart of this tribute lies a local legend regarding a Khandrom Princess from Tawang. According to folklore, she offered herself to be entombed within the Chorten during its construction, a sacrifice believed to have forged an eternal link between Tawang and the Trashiyangtse district of Bhutan.

This bond remains vibrant today through the annual Dakpa Kora pilgrimage. Every year, devotees from Tawang travel for days across the border to visit the sacred site. Local tradition adds that the golden pinnacle of the stupa leans slightly toward Tawang, symbolizing a permanent invitation for the people of the region to return to the monument that honors their shared history.
