Arunachal Bids Farewell to Indigenous Leader Dr. Bengia Tolum

Itanagar: Dr. Bengia Tolum, a prominent indigenous leader and dedicated social reformer, was laid to rest at his residence in Tolum Polyi, Yazali, this past Saturday. He passed away at the age of 69 on Thursday while receiving care at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences in Naharlagun. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, and five sons, one of whom is the senior journalist Bengia Ajum.

Members of the Arunachal Press Club and the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists gathered alongside community leaders and residents to pay their final respects. The funeral was attended by numerous media professionals, including APC President Amar Sangno, APUWJ President Dodum Yangfo, and representatives from the Ziro Press Club, highlighting the deep respect the leader commanded across the state.

Reflecting on his contributions, APC President Amar Sangno described Dr. Tolum as a compassionate bridge builder who tirelessly advocated for the preservation of indigenous heritage, education, and social harmony. His passing is widely viewed as a significant loss for the Nyishi community and the broader population of Arunachal Pradesh. The media fraternity has expressed its deepest condolences to the grieving family, honoring a legacy of constructive engagement and societal upliftment that will be remembered for generations.
