Itanagar: Rupa Bayor punched her ticket to the national taekwondo team. She locked in the spot at the Final National Team Trial held at Kormangala Stadium in Bengaluru. Now, she prepares to represent India at the 2026 Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Mongolia.
Bayor is currently the top-ranked athlete in Asia. She also sits at number six in the world. Her climb up the rankings has been fast. She rose from 123rd globally in 2021 to her current elite standing. Recent recognition includes the Best Taekwondo Poomsae Player of the Year award from the 2026 India Taekwondo Gala.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to social media to celebrate her selection. He noted that her success stems from years of discipline. Khandu stated, "earning a spot in the national team reflects her dedication, discipline, and relentless hard work." The Chief Minister expects her to bring home more accolades for the country.
