Kohima: Two gunmen terrorized the residence of Zeliangrong Youth Front Nagaland president R John Zeliang late on September 20. The pair wore half-camouflage gear and toted automatic weapons. They struck at Jalukie B Village in Peren at 11:10 PM. The target heard them coming. An eyewitness spotted the intruders, prompting Zeliang to sound the alarm and summon his neighbors. The gunmen bolted into the night.
The Zeliangrong Students Union Nagaland, Nsong Area Youth Organization, and Nsong Kebai Public Organization blasted the raid as a dangerous escalation. They see a pattern of intimidation. "The rising gun culture and activities of armed groups have no place in a peaceful and law-abiding society," the groups stated. They now want answers from the Peren district administration and local police.
Authorities must launch a fast, impartial, and time-bound investigation. The coalition demands the identification and arrest of the suspects. They also want officials to trace the weapons used during the intrusion. The organizations insist that community leaders must work without fear. They called for communal harmony while vowing to continue their advocacy work despite the threats.
