Kohima: The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority North Eastern Region partnered with the Nagaland Department of Horticulture to host capacity building workshops in Kohima and Peren on June 5 and 6. These events aimed to educate farmers on the logistical and documentation requirements needed to export local produce to international markets.
During the Kohima session, participants examined the export potential of King Chilli, Kiwi, Persimmon, and Orange. Assistant Horticulture Officer R. Chumben Patton opened the event by encouraging local growers to expand their market reach, stating, "harnessing the export potential of locally grown crops" was a primary goal for the regional agricultural sector.
Business Development Manager Joydev Roy guided attendees through the technical side of the trade, including financial assistance schemes and the registration process via the DGFT portal. Exporter Rajeev Medhi joined the discussion to explain the practical steps of handling consignments, specifically focusing on harvesting, pre-cooling, and packaging techniques essential for international shipping.
The Peren workshop shifted focus toward King Chilli, Ginger, and Turmeric. Dr. Prashant Kalal of KVK Peren provided technical advice on post-harvest management and maintaining the high-quality standards required for export success. District Horticulture Officer Dileu Nsarangbe chaired the meeting, which brought together regional stakeholders to discuss the future of Nagaland's agricultural exports.
