APDCL Cracks Down on Power Theft in Assam's Margherita

Guwahati: The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited conducted a major enforcement operation on June 3 to combat electricity theft in the Margherita area of Tinsukia district. Officials from the Margherita Electrical Sub-Division targeted various localities to stop unauthorized meter bypassing and illegal power consumption.

During the raids, authorities discovered more than ten homes drawing electricity by tapping directly into main distribution lines. Officials seized various items used in these illegal connections, including electric wires, ceiling fans, induction stoves, and pump motors. These materials were taken to the local APDCL office for processing.

Company representatives emphasized that stealing electricity is a serious violation of the Electricity Act of 2003. They warned that offenders face significant consequences, ranging from heavy fines to potential prosecution and time in judicial custody. APDCL plans to continue these inspections across the region to protect revenue and ensure residents follow legal power usage regulations.
