Kohima: The All Nagaland College Students' Union retracted its decision to dissociate from former president Katho P Awomi on July 10. The union put its previous order in abeyance, waiting for the legal system to finish its work. An earlier statement from the Media Cell caused public confusion.
Union leaders admitted the July 3 press release created unintended consequences. They noted that accusations regarding money demands were already cleared by the involved parties. The group also apologized to the Naga Students' Federation for any reputational damage caused by the initial announcement.
"Accordingly, after due deliberation by the union and in the larger interest of preserving unity, harmony and organisational decorum, the previous statement regarding the disassociation shall no longer remain in force until the facts are conclusively established through due process of law," the ANCSU stated.
The union kept its focus on the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act. Illegal bars and nightclubs still operate across the state despite strict laws. Civil society groups have pleaded for change. The ANCSU demanded that police and officials stop dragging their feet and shut these businesses down immediately.
