Guwahati: Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi called for the immediate removal of Assam Minister Bimal Borah from his post as guardian minister of Sivasagar on August 7. Gogoi alleges widespread corruption and political bias in how the government handed out flood relief funds. He says deserving families were ignored while ineligible people got cash.
Gogoi claims BJP leaders stayed away during the worst of the floods. They only showed up once the work started earning public praise. He accuses Borah of funneling supplies through BJP party members rather than using impartial channels. The MLA stated, "Gogoi accused Bimal Borah of distributing relief materials through BJP supporters and party ward members instead of ensuring impartial distribution."
Reports indicate a specific case where a BJP ward member allegedly stole relief goods. Local residents called out the theft but faced retaliation instead of justice. According to Gogoi, the whistleblower ended up in jail. The situation looks the same in Charaideo.
Many victims missed out on the government promised Rs 15,000 payment. Gogoi wants the Chief Minister to strip Borah of his duties. He insists that village headmen or neutral officials must handle future beneficiary lists to prevent further political interference.
