AIUDF Urges Assam Government to Halt Evictions and Coordinate Border Pushbacks

Guwahati: The All India United Democratic Front submitted a list of demands to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on July 8. The party challenged the state on eviction tactics, the Uniform Civil Code, and the handling of immigrants at the border.

AIUDF spokesperson Rafikul Islam insisted the state must talk to Bangladesh before moving people across the border. He claimed genuine Indians are getting caught in these operations. "Pushback is acceptable if the individuals are genuinely illegal immigrants. However, the government should hold talks with the Bangladesh government before undertaking such action," Islam said.

The party pushed for an immediate repeal of the Uniform Civil Code. They argue the legislation acts as a vehicle to force Hindu personal laws on the population. On the topic of housing, the AIUDF demanded the government stop all evictions until they find new homes for displaced families.

Islam also addressed local crime statistics. He dismissed reports linking high crime rates to Muslim-majority regions as nothing more than propaganda. He stated that criminals do not follow religious lines.

The group touched on the Ayodhya situation as well. While describing the demolition of the Babri Masjid as a deep scar, the party signaled a need for compromise. They maintain that because the temple now stands, both the site and its associated funds deserve respect.
