Itanagar: The Adi Students’ Union has scheduled a 12-hour bandh across East Siang district on May 27. The protest is intended to secure the release of anti-drug activist Gumin Mize, who serves as president of the Arunachal Pradesh Against Drugs and Wine group. The union will proceed with the shutdown if the court denies bail to Mize during his scheduled hearing on May 26.
The bandh is set to run from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Union leaders Gomle Ratan and Mido Pertin have confirmed that they intend for the protest to remain peaceful and democratic. Local authorities and law enforcement officials have already been notified of the plan.
To minimize public disruption, the union has exempted essential services from the protest. This includes hospitals, pharmacies, clinics, and emergency personnel such as police and fire departments. Media workers, utility providers, milk and water deliveries, and those attending exams or pre-scheduled weddings and religious events will also be permitted to operate.
