Adi Community Launches Traditional Banne Nog-ying Garland to Preserve Cultural Heritage

Itanagar: The Adi Baane Ane Kebang (ABAK) officially launched the Banne Nog-ying on May 16, unveiling a distinctive bead garland designed to honor and preserve the cultural identity of Adi women. The inaugural ceremony took place at the IGJ Government Higher Secondary School in Pasighat, attended by Pasighat East MLA Tapi Darang alongside various community leaders and dignitaries.

The ornament draws inspiration from the traditional Dudab worn by Adi men. It serves as a unique cultural identifier for unmarried women, complementing the existing Banbo Reyang for men. While Adi women have long adorned themselves with pieces like the Nog, Sondorong, Maduli, and Tampilang, the Banne Nog-ying acts as a modern recreation of the traditional Nog. This updated design maintains the cultural essence of the tribe while ensuring it remains suitable for contemporary use.

Conceptualized by ABAK General Secretary Opung Jamoh Dai, the garland was crafted by Yato Jamoh Nobeng and named by Maktel Pertin, the Head Gaon Burah of Dambuk. The initiative received formal approval during a joint meeting of the Adi Baane Kebang and Opin Buang Council on May 2. During the event, MLA Tapi Darang and Central Donyi-Polo Yelam Kebang President Dr. Tajom Tasung praised the effort as a significant milestone in safeguarding tribal traditions.

Organizers emphasized that the Banne Nog-ying is intended to foster unity and pride across the Adi community in Arunachal Pradesh. By gifting these garlands to women, friends, and distinguished guests, the organization hopes to promote traditional awareness while honoring the dignity and heritage of the tribe for future generations.
