Guwahati: The All Assam Students Union ramped up its statewide agitation on May 22 to protest the climbing prices of fuel, food items, and life-saving medicines. Demonstrators across various districts, including Nagaon, Tinsukia, and Tamulpur, organized rallies to condemn what they labeled as arbitrary and anti-people inflation that has devastated daily wage earners and vulnerable households.
In Nagaon, district leaders and student representatives gathered to demand an immediate rollback of recent price hikes. Tinsukia saw hundreds of activists march from the local AASU office to Thana Chariali, where they issued a stern warning that the protests would escalate if the government fails to implement corrective measures. Meanwhile, in Tamulpur, the Chirang District Students Union led a procession through the town, directly accusing the state government of failing to mitigate the rising cost of living.
AASU central secretary Dulujit Das highlighted the immense financial strain currently placed on families throughout Assam. He called on authorities to take urgent action to provide relief to citizens. The student organization maintains that the current economic situation is unsustainable and remains committed to continued public pressure until the government addresses their demands.
