Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) issued a sharp ultimatum to state minister Nyato Dukam. They want a public apology within 12 hours for his recent comments on the state job quota system. Dukam chairs the committee tasked with reviewing the current 80:20 reservation policy. He recently claimed that changing this ratio could trigger legal challenges and lead to the entire framework being tossed out by the courts.
AAPSU leaders slammed the minister for these statements. They called his remarks immature and irresponsible. The union argues the minister is supposed to stay neutral while his committee works. Instead, they believe he is spreading fear among the public. Meje Taku, the president of AAPSU, expressed his frustration with the situation. He said, "It was disappointing that a sitting Minister heading the committee had chosen to create apprehension rather than instil confidence in the process."
The union rejects the idea that a policy shift carries significant legal risk. They pointed to Articles 15(4) and 16(4) of the Constitution as proof that the state holds the power to protect indigenous interests. AAPSU maintains that similar policies operate in neighboring states without interference. They labeled the minister's warnings as mere fear-mongering. The group expects the committee to proceed with seriousness, noting that the removal of the 80:20 ratio is a non-negotiable demand for the indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh.
