Shillong: The A·chik Literature Society teamed up with the Mendipathar College Garo Department to host a regional writers workshop on Wednesday. More than 170 students, teachers, and local authors attended the event to sharpen their writing skills. It was a full house.
ALS Secretary Dr. Crystal Cornelious D. Marak opened the session. The goal is simple. He said, “ia workshop-ko ong·atani bidingo talate on·angengon, chadamberangko sea jotanio gisik nanggiparang ong·china didina, sea jotanirangko namdapatna aro sena jotna changgipa manderang, chatro chatrirangna skie on·skana gita miksonganio ia workshop-ko ong·ataha ine parakataha.”
Mendipathar College Principal Dr. MM Sangma urged students to study the various dialects and traditional customs of the A·chik people. He praised the ALS for working hard to preserve the language. Vice President Dr. Colnat B. Marak, Basan R. Marak, Dr. Rhinkle M. Marak, and Dr. Bilnang K. Sangma shared insights on literature throughout the day. Dr. Colnat B. Marak later led a discussion on the traditional Nokchame Gaa.
The event concluded with a certificate ceremony. Dr. Bellvydha S. Momin, head of the Garo Department, joined ALS members to distribute the awards to participants.
