Kohima: The Zunheboto Town Council set new price caps for meat sales starting June 24. Local authorities want to stop overcharging. They aim to keep essential food items affordable for everyone in the jurisdiction.
Pork and mithun meat will now sell for Rs 350 per kg. Local pork fetches a higher price at Rs 360 per kg. Meanwhile, pork hock, trotter, intestine, beef, and mithun intestine all sit at Rs 300 per kg. Beef intestine and mithun leg cost Rs 250 per kg. Beef leg is the cheapest option at Rs 200 per kg.
Butchers must follow these numbers. The council expects full compliance from all retailers operating in Zunheboto town. ZTC Chairperson K Herato Sukhalu issued the order to ensure fair play.
Retailers should watch out. The council plans to run regular checks to verify rates and quality standards. Any shop caught charging too much will face stiff penalties. ZTC warned that rule-breaking could lead to the "revocation of trade permits" for those involved.
