Kohima: Advisor K Tokugha Sukhalu highlighted the necessity of precise census data at an awareness programme in Zunheboto on June 10. Speaking to public leaders and stakeholders at the Multi-Purpose Hall, he urged citizens to provide truthful information during the upcoming exercise to ensure reliability. He noted that the process will be conducted in a more systematic manner than in previous years.
During the event, Sukhalu also addressed ration card eligibility criteria for the Priority Household and Antyodaya Anna Yojana schemes. He clarified that residents with an annual income exceeding Rs 2.5 lakh or those who own vehicles do not qualify for these subsidised categories. He stated, "Households with an annual income above Rs 2.5 lakh and individuals owning vehicles are not eligible under the subsidised categories and should instead avail General Household (GHH) ration cards."
Additional Deputy Commissioner Shaying Sheu explained that the decennial census was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and various election cycles. The project is now referred to as Census 2027 because the final results will be released that year. Officials confirmed that the current phase focuses on House Listing Operations, with full population enumeration set for February. To increase transparency and accuracy compared to the 2011 census, all data will be geo-tagged.
Sub-Divisional Officer Sukhalu Chishi announced that local school teachers will serve as enumerators for the upcoming house-listing tasks. The programme, chaired by Naga People's Front Zunheboto Division President Khehoshe H Yepthomi, also included remarks from ZAPO President Kakugha S Rotokha.
