Guwahati: Zubeen Kshetra is dark. The memorial dedicated to late singer Zubeen Garg closed its doors at 9 p.m. on June 22 to mirror traditions at the Kamakhya Temple. Visitors must stay away until the morning of June 26.

The Zubeen Kshetra Cleanliness, Management and Monitoring Committee ordered the closure. They aim to respect the religious customs of the Ambubachi Mela. This festival marks the time when Goddess Kamakhya undergoes her annual menstrual cycle. Worship stops across the temple grounds during these three days.

The committee forbids all lamps and incense at the memorial throughout this period. The site, which evolved from a simple cremation ground into a space fans treat like a temple, will undergo a full cleaning before operations return to normal. The group noted the site has "evolved beyond its origins as a cremation ground" in their official statement. Gates reopen on June 26 once the rituals finish.
