Imphal: The Zeliangrong United Front is drawing a hard line. The group warned civil society and politicians to stop holding private talks about their ancestral homeland. They want no unilateral decisions on political issues without buy-in from all stakeholders. The outfit claims these secret moves undermine the community.
ZUF officials issued a blunt warning about the way forward. They said any unresolved government proposals must not be handled by what they called "self-proclaimed negotiators." The group promised to watch these developments closely. They will take what they termed "appropriate action" against anyone cutting deals behind their backs.
Tensions remain high over land rights and resources. The ZUF claims illegal immigrants are encroaching on their territory. They told these individuals to pack up and get out. The group threatened force if their demands are ignored. They insist their history and customary rights are not up for trade.
Old wounds are still open. The ZUF flatly rejected an apology from Kuki-Zo leaders regarding the use of the term Kacha Naga. They also blamed Kuki militants for the deaths of Konsakhul villagers. The group vowed they would never compromise with those responsible for such violence.
