Imphal: Zeliangrong civil society groups are lashing out at Kuki-Zo Council Chairman Henlianthang Thanglet. They claim he used the colonial term Kacha Naga during a June 25 press conference. The organizations view the remark as a deliberate insult to all Naga people. It was a direct affront.
The outrage follows the brutal killing of six Naga civilians in Leilon Vaiphei. Reports suggest the victims faced torture and mutilation before their deaths. These groups claim the Kuki-Zo Council ignored the gravity of the crime. They called the Chairman’s recent comments arrogant and provocative.
The organizations collectively stated, "'Kacha Naga' has never been our self-designation. It is a colonial-era misclassification, born of administrative ignorance and imperial convenience, weaponised to demean and delegitimise Naga identity, history, and dignity."
The Zeliangrong Youth Front and other unions demand immediate government action. They want the perpetrators behind the Leilon Vaiphei killings caught and punished. They also insist that the term Kacha Naga be scrubbed from all official records and media platforms. Silence is not an option. The groups warned that any failure to apologize will force further consequences.
The ZYFN specifically rejected the Chairman’s apology for the killings, calling it empty rhetoric. They contrasted the recent violence against the respectful release of 14 Kuki hostages by their own side. The groups remain firm. Justice must come before any reconciliation.
