Kohima: The Zeliang Youth Organization has issued a strong condemnation following an alleged shooting and intimidation attempt on the Dimapur to Jalukie road. The incident occurred during the early hours of June 5, when a Zeliang youth and his companions were returning home.

According to the organization, an unidentified maroon Alto car began tailing the victims near the DIET Training Centre in Chümoukedima district. Despite the victims repeatedly yielding to the pursuing vehicle, the occupants continued their pursuit. The situation turned violent near Pimla, where an individual wearing military camouflage attempted to intercept them.

Between 1:50 a.m. and 2:00 a.m., a gunshot was fired directly at the victims' car, with the bullet piercing the front door and narrowly missing those inside. The pursuit continued until the victims eventually reached safety at the Mhainamtsi check gate. The organization described the attack as a deliberate attempt on the lives of innocent citizens, stating, "The alleged attack was not merely an act of intimidation but a deliberate attempt on the lives of innocent citizens travelling on a public highway."

The Zeliang Youth Organization is demanding that law enforcement in Chümoukedima and Peren districts register a First Information Report and identify the perpetrators immediately. They are also calling on the government to increase night patrols and improve security along the transit corridor to protect commuters. The group has appealed to local village councils and residents to provide any information or CCTV footage that might help identify the maroon vehicle involved.

The organization warned that it may organize democratic protests if authorities fail to apprehend the individuals responsible. They remain committed to seeking justice and ensuring accountability for the threat posed to public safety.
