Agartala: Tensions flared in Agartala on Monday after Tripura Youth Congress activists clashed with CRPF personnel during a demonstration. The protest, which focused on issues including unemployment, corruption, and rising prices, resulted in injuries and a series of police detentions.

Tripura Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha reported that seven party activists sustained injuries when CRPF jawans used force to disperse the crowd. Saha criticized the security presence, stating, "We strongly condemn the role of the CRPF jawans because they caned our supporters without any command from the police authority." He added that the organization intends to file a formal complaint against a specific CRPF officer for assaulting demonstrators.

Police officials provided a different account of the event. Rana Chatterjee, Officer-in-Charge of the West Agartala Police Station, characterized the security response as a mild lathicharge. He reported that only two individuals suffered minor injuries and stated that 63 protesters were taken into preventive custody for violating the law. All detained activists were released later that evening.

The Youth Congress maintains that their demonstration was peaceful and is currently consulting with senior leadership to determine their next steps. The incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing friction between the local opposition party and state authorities.
