Imphal: The World Meetei Council is demanding change. Secretary General Yambem Arun Meetei issued a statement calling on civil society groups to drop separate agendas and focus on Manipur. Constant public anxiety bubbles up on social media daily. Yet, many local areas remain stuck in a cycle of festivals and cultural events.
The council wants a closed-door meeting to map out the state's future. They argue that these community organizations must prioritize collective deliberations over celebrations. Organizers and active citizens should halt all parties and focus on the serious issues currently gripping the region. The WMC warned that the current path ignores the larger challenges facing Manipur.
The council also targeted state leadership. They urged Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to embrace a broader, long-term perspective. The group warned that a “myopic” outlook could severely damage the future of the state. Collective action is the only way forward.
