Imphal: Gunfire erupted at 4.30 am today in Taodaijang Bunruang village. Cadres from the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah and Zeliangrong United Front-Jenchui squared off in the Noney district. The village sits 19 km east of the Nungba Police Station. Bullets flew.
Ganchuiliu Kamei, 36, took a round to her thigh during the fight. She is the wife of Dithailung Gangmei. Doctors report her condition as stable. The shooting started when NSCN-IM fighters attacked a bunker held by ZUF-J.
Nungba police arrived shortly after to check the scene. An officer-in-charge led the team. The village has become a war zone for these factions. On March 9, the groups fought for three hours in the same spot. That battle destroyed three homes with gunfire and bombs. Locals remain on edge as the conflict persists. "The latest incident comes amid continuing armed clashes between the NSCN-IM and ZUF(J) in Taodaijang village."
