Woman attacks official's wife over payment dispute in Tinsukia

Guwahati: A woman stormed a house in Tinsukia district and slashed the occupant with a machete. The attack happened two days ago in Inthem. Rahila Kurmi targeted the wife of Lambit Konwar, the Inthem Gaon Panchayat president, while he was away from the home. The victim suffered deep wounds to her left hand and required eight stitches at a local hospital.

The assailant reportedly snapped over missing payments from the PM-Kisan scheme. She clearly blamed the local representative for the lack of funds. Lambit Konwar denied any personal role in the payout process. "Panchayat representatives have no role in the approval or disbursement of funds under the PM-Kisan scheme," he said.

The government manages those payouts directly. Margherita police are now investigating the assault. They have opened a case and started legal proceedings against Kurmi. The victim remains in stable condition.
