Kohima: Women from Wokha Town gathered at Lotha Eloe Hoho Ki on September 15 for a workshop on agripreneurship. The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Wokha teamed up with the Lotha Eloe Hoho to host the event. They want to create new ways for local women to earn money through farming.
Megokhono Meyase, a horticulture expert, explained how to manage produce after picking it. She warned that fruit and vegetables rot fast if handled poorly. Proper care keeps them fresh and safe. "Proper post-harvest management, she said, can help reduce qualitative and quantitative losses, maintain food safety and quality, increase shelf life and improve farmers' income."
Meyase told the group to turn leftover crops into jams, jellies, or pickles. These processed goods open new doors for profit. Deepa Singh, a specialist in home science, also showed the group how to make papaya tutti frutti. This demonstration aimed to show how simple processing turns raw papaya into a viable product. The training gave these women the skills to start their own agribusiness ventures using local goods.
