Kohima: Farmers gathered at the VDB hall in Wokha on September 19 to learn how to boost their harvests. The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Wokha held the event alongside the ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI) from Thiruvananthapuram. Roughly 100 people showed up for the training.
Megokhono Meyase, CTO of Horticulture at ICAR-KVK Wokha, chaired the meeting. R Lichumo Murry, the District Project Officer for LRD in Wokha, served as the special guest. Dr. VS Santhosh Mithra, the Scientist-In-Charge for Extension and Social Sciences at ICAR-CTCRI, laid out the goals for the day. He noted, "The programme brought together agricultural stakeholders for technical sessions focusing on improved production practices, crop protection and management of major pests and diseases affecting tropical tuber crops."
Dr. N Khumdemo Ezung and Lotsomo Yanthan offered short speeches before the sessions started. Dr. Mithra led a presentation on production technologies while Dr. Arutselvan from ICAR-RCCTCRI, Bhubaneswar, walked the group through pest and disease control. Organizers gave out input materials to the attendees. The day ended with a lunch and a field visit for hands-on practice. The effort aims to give local growers the tools they need to overcome production hurdles.
