Kohima: Farmers in Wokha learned to grow aromatic plants during a training session at the DC Conference Hall on September 29. ICAR KVK Wokha and CSIR NEIST, Jorhat, hosted the event under the banner of the CSIR Aroma Mission 4.0. The day included a technical deep dive into farming techniques and concluded with the distribution of seeds and saplings to attendees.
EAC Wokha Sangmou Khiamniungan challenged the farmers to focus on actual results. He told the crowd: "The success of the programme should not be measured merely by the distribution of seeds and saplings, but by whether farmers are able to cultivate the plants successfully and turn them into sustainable sources of income." He noted that rising demand for health products like green tea offers a real path to entrepreneurship. He advised them to start small and seek government help to build better market access.
Technical Consultant Dr. Rahman Amasari led the classroom instruction. He detailed the soil needs, harvest methods, and medicinal uses for various crops. He also showed participants how to create value added products from lemongrass and chamomile. The CSIR Aroma Mission 4.0 aims to link scientific growing methods with commercial profit for local growers.
