Kohima: The Public Health Engineering Department of Wokha joined forces with the local district administration to host the Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jalvayu campaign between June 1 and June 5, 2026. The initiative aimed to educate rural leaders on environmental responsibility and modern waste practices.
The event kicked off at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall with a sensitization program for Gram Panchayats and lead facilitators. Officials briefed attendees on the Solid Waste Management Rules of 2026 and relevant Supreme Court directives. Participants learned about the four-way segregation of waste and the specific monitoring duties required of rural local bodies.
Throughout the five-day program, organizers held various activities, including plantation drives, community cleanliness efforts, and the identification of bulk waste generators in rural areas. Village functionaries also conducted site visits to assess the functionality of existing waste management assets.
The campaign reached its conclusion on June 5 with a special Gram Sabha. Describing the core focus of the initiative, organizers emphasized the "Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jalvayu" mission as a district-wide effort to ensure long-term environmental safety.
