Imphal: A 57-year-old truck driver from West Bengal, Nitish Kumar, was killed during a violent ambush in Manipur on Friday. The victim, who was operating an FCI vehicle, died instantly after sustaining critical gunshot wounds near Roudei village, also known as TM Kasom. A police officer stationed at Litan Police Station was also wounded in the exchange of fire.

The attack occurred as a combined security team consisting of Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF, and RAF personnel escorted a convoy of stranded FCI trucks and fuel tankers from Yaingangpokpi toward Ukhrul. Authorities stated that armed Kuki militants positioned in the Patleijang hill area opened fire on the security forces. In response, security teams have launched search and area domination operations to track down the assailants.

Local residents reported that gunfire also disrupted a funeral service earlier that morning for an elderly villager. Witnesses claimed the shots originated from the same hill area occupied by the militants, a report that aligns with official police accounts. In a separate disruption on Saturday, a segment of National Highway 202 was excavated near Shangkai Kuki village. Locals alleged the road was deliberately destroyed using a JCB excavator to block traffic, though the full extent of the damage remains under investigation.
