Imphal: Thoubal district police busted a drug trafficking ring this week. Officers arrested two men and seized illegal pharmaceuticals along with Rs 16.43 lakh in cash. The raids wrapped up over the past 48 hours following specific intelligence tips.
A police team hit the home of 46-year-old Syed Anish Shah in Lilong Haoreibi Turel Ahanbi Ubakthong Makha. They found 144 Spasmo-Proxyvon capsules and Rs 16,43,750 in cash. Shah told police where to find his associate. Officers then raided Khekman Makha Leikai and picked up Asem Somanda Singh, 46.
Singh lacked valid paperwork for his stash. Police grabbed 324 strips of Samplex+, 126 strips of Spasz+, and 30 bottles of Tussrex-TR from his location. Both men now face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Police moved them to the local station for interrogation.
Authorities described the operation as a win in the fight against the illicit prescription medicine trade. Officials noted that drugs like Spasmo-Proxyvon, intended as pain relievers, are frequently abused. Police stated: "Drugs such as Spasmo-Proxyvon, originally intended for medical use as pain relievers and antispasmodics, are frequently abused for their opioid-like effects, contributing to substance dependence and addiction, particularly among young people."
