Guwahati: Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass has officially granted the Leader of the Opposition status to senior Congress leader Wajed Ali Choudhury. The Assembly confirmed the appointment on Tuesday through an official social media announcement.

This formal designation follows the Congress Legislature Party decision on May 26 to elect Choudhury as its leader. During the same meeting, the party also selected Joy Prakash Das to serve as the deputy leader of the Congress Legislature Party.

As the representative of the largest opposition party in the 126-member legislature, Choudhury will now act as the primary opposition voice. He is expected to take a central role in guiding legislative debates and addressing policy matters within the Assam Assembly.
