Guwahati: Sixteen villages near Guwahati face potential eviction for a proposed Aero City and Satellite Township. While the government has not issued formal eviction orders, residents report intense survey activity replacing their typical farming work. Officials have been busy collecting land records across the Palasbari and Azara revenue circles.

The state identified six villages for land valuation and acquisition, including Jobe, Matifuturi, and Kamargaon. The total project footprint spans 6,662 bighas of land. The Adani Group plans to build the Aero City on 2,662 bighas, while the Assam government handles the remaining satellite development.

Local families rely on these fields for their survival. They want answers on where they will go if they lose their homes. The situation is tense. Many of these villages sit inside the south Kamrup Tribal Belt, and tribal leaders worry about losing land rights and cultural protections.

On June 18, regional tribal groups sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister. They demanded the government protect the interests of indigenous people. The groups stated that the move could "weaken the self-governance powers of the RHAC." Locals remain on edge as the government pushes to finalize the documentation process.
