Imphal: Villagers in TM Kasom, also known as Roudei, have reported an armed attack during a funeral service held on Friday, May 29, 2026. The community gathered to honor an elderly villager who recently died from a kidney illness when gunfire broke out near the local cemetery.
Local accounts suggest the attackers originated from the nearby hamlet of Patleijang, which is home to several Kuki families and internally displaced people. A video circulating online purports to document the incident, with narrators claiming that security forces stationed in the vicinity failed to intervene.
In a separate development on the same day, a truck driver was shot and killed along National Highway 202 between TM Kasom and New Heaven. The driver was reportedly transporting essential goods at the time, though authorities have not yet confirmed the victim's identity. Official statements regarding both incidents remain pending as investigations continue.
