Imphal: The United Naga Council (UNC) has officially denied any involvement in the May 13 killings of three Thadou church leaders, describing the incident as an internal conflict between groups within the Kuki fold. The organization stated that it is clear no Naga armed groups were involved in the attack, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of these individuals who were viewed as dedicated peace advocates within their communities.

The UNC strongly rejected accusations leveled against them by various Kuki organizations, characterizing these claims as a deliberate campaign to spread misinformation. According to the UNC, groups such as the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) released condemnation statements citing specific perpetrators only hours after the incident, yet these documents were inexplicably dated May 6, 2026, a full week before the attack occurred. The Naga body argued that this discrepancy suggests prior knowledge of the crime and demanded that the KIM provide concrete evidence to substantiate their public allegations.
