Imphal: The United Naga Council has formally requested that Home Minister Amit Shah intervene to secure the release of six Naga hostages. The organization reports that these individuals are being held by the Kuki National Front-P and residents of Leilon Vaiphei village. According to eyewitnesses, 18 civilians were initially abducted on May 13, 2026, though 12 women and a child were released two days later.

There is growing fear regarding the fate of the remaining captives, who include two pastors. The council cited reliable reports suggesting the hostages may have been killed while in custody. Frustration is mounting over the perceived inaction of both the Manipur state government and central security forces, which the council argues has delayed a resolution to the crisis.

The group has also raised questions about potential political interference in the investigation. They have specifically highlighted the position of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, who is the wife of the Kuki National Front-P leader, Thangboi Kipgen. The council is now urging the Home Ministry to take immediate control of the situation to account for the hostages regardless of their current status.
