United Naga Council asks Modi to secure Manipur territories

Imphal: The United Naga Council is calling on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in Manipur. The apex body wants federal protection for Naga lands. Violence in the state has reached a breaking point. Naga leaders held a press conference in New Delhi on Saturday to demand justice for six civilians who were murdered. They insisted the situation has moved past a simple law-and-order problem.

The delegation reported that attackers are now using drones and rocket launchers. They urged the Centre to invoke Article 355 to stop the bloodshed. "The current situation in Manipur can no longer be treated as a routine law-and-order issue," the group stated in a memorandum. The council is pushing for a court-monitored investigation into the recent abductions and killings.

Naga representatives want the Kuki National Front-President labeled as a terrorist group. They also called for the government to scrap the Suspension of Operations agreement with militants who break the rules. The group expects the Prime Minister to respect the 2015 Indo-Naga Framework Agreement. They warned against any administrative shifts that might impact ancestral territories. Security along major highways must return immediately.
